The Burning Questions for Ask the Pastor Anything Night
Tonight, we are trying something new. Grace Adventure is gathering with folks of the community for an "Ask the Pastor Anything Night."
As a pastor, I have found that most people have things they wonder, but feel there is this underlying notion that you cannot question what you learned in your 3rd grade Sunday school class, or that by asking questions, you are challenging God. Or...just that you never have an opportunity to ask the question you REALLY want to ask.
So if you have not heard this before, let me tell you that questions are GOOD. Growth comes from questioning. God is not going to get mad at you for asking questions.
So what IS that burning question you have always wanted to ask?????
So tonight at UNO's at 7:00PM, 3 United Methodist pastors (each of varying outlooks...we did this to ensure some difference in opinion) will be there to answer questions and dialogue. I don't think we will have an answer to everything, but I know we will speak as honestly and openly as we can. When you come in, just tell the person who greets you at the door you are there for Theology on Tap and they will direct you to the room we always use in the back.
So come on out! Its casual, we are friendly, and there is no dress code or expectation of what we will end up talking about. Bring a friend. Buy a drink or some food, and enjoy the conversation!
I am not going to make promises, but we hope to record some of the evening's conversation and get it up on our YouTube account.
To get things going for the evening, here are the questions folks have already texted or emailed me...and by the way, these are already GREAT questions!!! I can't wait to get out there and chat tonight! I hope to see you there!
1. To convert to Judaism, you have to prove you want to. Why do most Christian sects think that it is necessary to seek out converts?
2. 1. What if the Religious R...ight is "right"? What if gay people ARE going to hell? Should I repent now or just refuse to think that way?
2. How long do you spend each day in prayer?
3. Is there anyone in your life, living or dead, who you have not forgiven or reconciled with?
4. Define success and faith.
5. Is there any topic you think you could not discuss in church?
6. Do you feel that you must believe in Jesus as the son of God, the messiah, to be in God's good graces or to go to "heaven." Do you believe in heaven?
7. What made you go into seminary?
8. Do you believe that there is "a plan" that God has for everyone or do you think that there are just too many people to control so directly? or is that just "the miracle?"
9. What values do you think help friendships and relationships grow and remain strong?
10. If you could choose three people, living or dead, to have dinner with, who would they be and why? :)
Post your question if you cannot make it tonight!
Shalom,
Pastor Annette
